After a much longer hiatus than I intended, the excerpts of the marketing book are back! And as I am intending to start the pre-orders for this book in September, I will need to play “catch up” and post more excerpts so that you will have enough available come September that it will be as if I had never stopped the excerpts from appearing. πŸ˜‰ That means there will be at least one excerpt a day leading to the September 1st blog post announcing the pre-order, and probably on a couple of days there will be more than one. πŸ˜‰

If you’ve missed any of the previous excerpts, they are collected together for you. There are a few more to do for the Introduction, and after that I will start posting excerpts from Chapter 1.

Indeed, today’s excerpt is like a good swift kick in the pants to myself for not having posted excerpts over the last month here. As you read on, you’ll see exactly what I mean. I should not have stopped “marketing” the book with the excerpts. So time to take that swift kick in the pants like a man and start playing catch up, and then once the pre-orders begin there will be a more “regular” schedule for the excerpts which I think will work for everyone involved including yours truly. πŸ˜‰

Today’s excerpt is from the Introduction where I cover the basic questions and apply them to the application of marketing your product to the consumer. You know the basic questions – Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? Today I’ll present an excerpt from the part covered under β€œWhen?”

If people don’t know what you are doing, don’t know what you have available, don’t know how to get it, and so on, and so forth, then really, how do you expect them to BUY IT???

You should be talking with friends and family while you’re working on the project.

You should talk with anyone that will listen to you when you’re done with the project.

You should get online and take part in discussions and casually mention your project both before and after it’s bought.

You should have a blog

You should have social media accounts.

You should have a newsletter.

You should be marketing ALL THE TIME!!

Now don’t be some pain in the rear and hound your friends and family once you’ve got a contract asking them to buy copies all the time because they’ll start avoiding you, and be careful on how you market through social media because………
